Glossy leaves. An independent streak.

ZZ Plants

Sculptural stems and glossy leaflets bring structure to a room. ZZ plants suit a slower watering rhythm and come in forms with different colors and sizes.

Light

Bright, indirect light is a good starting point. ZZ plants tolerate lower light, but still need daylight or a suitable grow light.

Watering

Allow the potting mix to dry between waterings. Water thoroughly, drain excess, and check before watering again. Lower light slows drying.

Soil & container

Use a well-draining potting mix and a pot with drainage. Avoid a container that leaves the roots sitting in water.

Your plant-parent fit

A useful starting point for independent and easygoing plant parents. Frequent watering is less helpful than patient observation.

Space

Allow room for the stems to arch outward as the plant grows. Ask about compact varieties if your space is limited.

Pets

ZZ plants are not a pet-safe choice for cats or dogs that chew plants. Keep them out of reach and confirm the exact plant before buying.

Care needs vary by species, variety, pot, and growing conditions. These notes are a starting point; we can help you choose for your space.
